Broken Strings

The magic of the song is broken only by the stillness of the night.
Now he is alone, although he tries, he just can't seem to get it right.
He's got her on his mind although he wishes she was with him in his room,
and now he seems to find, that since she's gone, the night time always comes too soon.

At first the love was easy, maybe that’s the reason why it had to fail.
The summer sun turned cold and the cool sea breezes blew into a gale,
her lingering perfume he tries to disguise with another cigarette,
she only left him memories, the kind you wish you’d rather just forget.

[chorus]
Inspiration seems to leave him,
just as quickly as it came,
in his mind he knows he’ll never
play those songs for her again.
Now you’ll always find him waiting,
by a phone that never rings,
his guitar lies in the corner,
gathering dust on broken strings.

Somewhere there’s a building in another street and just another town,
a woman sits there silently and listens to the distant city sounds,
her heart stirs and a tear falls as she thinks about those half remembered songs,
she thinks she’s been forgotten, if she only knew just how much she was wrong.

[repeat chorus]
